Of course, I will not support the moronic nat ass board with responses any more re information for the ego and promo of the nat ass or the regular egomaniac posters there:

However, I will happily report watch info and research here as well as on my AMERICANHOROLOGE.COM SITE which is just begining; and, I will cheerfuly answer all horological questions for the 149ers and webhorologists who take the time to post and frequent this MB.

Other "sort of" watch names include National Watch Co (Trenton); Abbott Watch Co. (Howard); Washington Watch Co. (Illinois); Solar and Atlas Watch Co (Elgin); New Mexico Watch Co. (Lancaster); Second City Watch Co. (Illinois); Plymouth Watch Co. (Rockford)--want more, I have them????

Hey Jon - I missed your post on this until just now. Some of the company names posted on the NAWCC board include those that I've understood were simply names that were used by the major makers to keep their name from being associated with lesser quality models (e.g., Waltham's "Equity" line). Is this right?

Default Atlas Watch Co.

Jon,
I am curious if there is a quality difference between the Atlas Watch Co. 7 jewel watch and the 7 jewel watch marked Elgin Watch Co. and if they are the same quality why they would want their name on one and not the other.
I have an 18 size 7 jewel #2633740 movement marked Elgin Nat'l. Watch Co. Elgin Ill. and dial marked Elgin Nat'l. Watch Co.
I have an 18 size 7 jewel #7288421 movement marked Atlas Watch Co. Chicago.U.S.A. and dial marked Atlas Watch Co.

DAve, The quality on the Atlas is much lower than the Elgin label watch. Look at your pic. Note that the balance on the Atlas is an uncut balance. I have also been told that the Atlas does not have a safety pinion. I'm sure there are other cost cutting measures. Note also that the Elgin name is nowhere to be seen on the Atlas. I have been told that the Atlas was sold with no guarantee given by Elgin.
