Default Breaking up Watches - Time for new NAWCC to Be formed...

Hello All,

I fear that we are wasting our time on trying to stop the
breaking up of pocket watches. I believe in
your cause, but with tools like eBay and the fools
running NAWCC, there are too many opportunites to
make money on this activity. NAWCC dealers do not
need to hide on eBay, they can do it opennly at
any NAWCC regional.

Have you thought about asking NAWCC members to
terminate their NAWCC membership over this? Money
talks and that appears to the only thing that the
NAWCC will listen to. If the NAWCC membership falls
by 10,000 or so, it will hit the NAWCC where it
hurts (wallet) and they may actually take notice
and make an effort to stop this practice. Actually,
they will probably just raise the dues again, so it
may actually take 15,000 to 20,000 members to drop.

Have you thought about starting your own watch
organization, maybe one that is mostly internet based
to start? Why do we need a multi-million dollar NAWCC musuem that is hard to travel to when we can create
websites that contain detailed watch information and
online research? If we can get 10% of the NAWCC
chapters to quit the NAWCC we would have enough
money and members to get started and even hold
on-site regional marts. Once the new organization is
up and running, it would be easy for other chapters
to switch over once they see the quality and ethics
that the new organization brings to the table.

I see no reason why this new organization could not
have it's own version of eBay. Chapter 149 is a
leader in making watch information available online
and folks like John Cote and others is doing a great job on putting pictures of watches on websites.

The NAWCC membership is being treated like dirt by
the NAWCC headquarters, but why should they change,
the NAWCC keeps on getting the yearly dues. I think
it is long overdue for a new organization to be
formed. I would be happy to talk to you or others
on this subject on the phone or more via email.

I really do not see anyway to stop the breaking up
of watches without having an organization that would
ban its members from this practice and by having a
website that would strongly compete against eBay.
This is all possible, we just need members to support us in spirt and in their membership dollars. Also,
we would not be starting from scratch, the local
chapters do all the work with regionals and it is the local chapters that are putting up the online research and forums. Also, there are other online
auction sites that we could partner up with instead
of starting a new one.

Default breaking up watches

I HAVE A LOT OF PARTS, AND PARTS MOVEMENTS, THAT I BOUGHT AT NAWCC MARTS AND FROM WATCH REPAIR SHOPS.
AS MORE AND MORE COLLECTORS ARE CREATED VIA EBAY, THOSE PARTS BECOME MARKETABLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE LONG IGNORED AT NAWCC MARTS.
DO I RISK ANGRY VOICES OF "SERIOUS COLLECTORS" IF I OFFER THEM FOR SALE?
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT ANYONE WOULD BREAK UP A GOOD MOVEMENT TO SELL SOME PARTS.
WHEN DID THE PARTS BECOME WORTH MORE THAN THE WHOLE?
I DON'T SWITCH, AND HAVE REFUSED OFFERS FROM BUYERS WHO ONLY WANTED THE DIAL OR THE CASE, WHEN I HAVE SOLD STUFF ON EBAY.
IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT NAWCC DESTROYING WATCHES, RELAX, THE NAWCC WILL SELF DESTRUCT LONG BEFORE IT DESTROYS POCKET WATCHES, I WAS AT THE LAST "NATIONAL", THE WRITING WAS ON THE WALL AND THE EMPTY TABLES.

I read the NAWCC Message Board and all of them the members talk about is how to justify breaking up and switching watches.

There is no position spoken by them for the original watch or clock.

They just want to defend what they do to screw up their watches. Just how many original pocket watches do they have--probably damn few and it must be by accident.

Justification ann't no excuse. They live in disneyland.

Default KEEP YOUR WATCHES ORIGINAL-SAVE THEM FROM PARTING OUT!

I have read just about every excuse for parting out imagineable.

The butchers, appologists, fat head dealers and money mongers continue to confuse switching and parting out.

Because some watchbreaker tore apart a watch 100 years ago doesn't make it right and the morons can't seem to get this one right.

NAWCC "spokesmen" for ******ation and destruction continue to cover their asses for the practice of UPGRADING watches 21st century style. These clowns must have so many "BAD" watches in their collections that the only way to substantiate WHAT THEY HAVE DONE it is to whine, cry and defend this horrible practice of mixing and matching. Soon, it might just be that, who cares what these jokers have, as most collections will contain so much mismatched junk and will circulate/sell it at at such an excelled rate that the parters out will have already parted out these watches previously only to repart out again over and over! IT WILL ULTIMATELY BECOME THE RECYCLE OF THE RECYCLE!

IF, AS THE APPOLOGISTS AND RADIFIERS CLAIM, "GET USED TO PARTING OUT WATCHES"--THEN THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO DONATE THE CORRECT AND UNTAMPERED STUFF TO A MUSEUM.

ONE GOOD THING IS THAT OLD WATCHES ARE BECOMING MORE AND MORE TOUGH TO FIND IN THE RAW. MAYBE THE FAST BUCK ARTISTS WILL SOON RUN OUT OF MERCH AND GO INTO SOMETHING ELSE LIKE OLD DRUG BOTTLES, BEER CANS, WHISKY BOTTLES or costume jewelry. WHIFF THAT ONE!

Hello,

Possibly the parters out will restrict themselves to railroad watches -- could this be our only hope?

Does anyone else feel that the owners of websites like this intentinally evade any attempts to find out exactly who they are? Who are "Bothell Antiques"--who is the ubiquitous, but undefined "we" who does so much stuff, here there and everywhere?
